Looks like summer

To control the thistles and to get a hay crop, the small section of Tubney Fen next to the Bridge is being cut and cleared. With the bales in the field it looks at first glance like the end of summer. Hopefully there will be some bails of hay in their place in June/July.

By cutting now ground nesting birds will be protected as they are not yet nesting. With a spot of luck the grass will grow, birds such as Skylarks will nest and then the chicks will fledge before the hay is cut as late as possible. As the hay grows it will provide a valuable habitat for other species including the grasses themselves.
